Zoom Away

Theatre, dance, and Hollywood
have had to all close down,
Following the non-essential
Businesses in town.

Oh, no, we thought, how can we live?
What will we do for fun?
Have no fear, YouTube is here,
And Zoom for everyone.

Zoom has helped to pass the time
And made me feel connected—
Piano lessons, virtual chats,
Writings, too, corrected.

Meetings, happy hour,
book clubs open for review…
Games galore like poker,
Mahjong, Pictionary, Clue.

I Zoom at night, I Zoom all day,
I Zoom to take the blues away.
I Zoom on iPad, Zoom by phone,
Sometimes I’d like to be alone.

Zoom has opened up a world
Closed off, I thought, for sure.
When this is finally over,
I swear I’ll Zoom no more!

Lynne Podrat has secretly been a writer and poet her whole life, but has only recently chosen to share those talents with the world. A retired educator and administrator from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania school district, she taught English, literature and composition. Lynne now lives with her husband in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where she enjoys playing with her two granddaughters and participating in competitive dragon boating (she qualified to try out for Team USA!).

And yet, I have made new friends across the country and across the pond, made possible only by Zoom. But then, Im retired. Meetings face-to-face used to be bad enough. I can only image hours of Brady Bunch credits Lynnes clever poem has struck a nerve.

I am so done with Zoom meetings! It's like being trapped in the the opening credits of "The Brady Bunch" all day! Thank you for this fun poem!

I love this uplifting musical poem. It is clever and humorous and it speaks the truth. I like the rhyme and the repetition of the word zoom. We used to zoom around in society but now we zoom in the electronic world.
