Now is the time
for hibernation,
now is the time
for rest – with sealed eyes
I face the dark, with stomach full,
I digest – all the seasons that came before,
all that are yet to come,
I lie down on the cool cave floor
and to the shadows,
I succumb.

@barbsteff, it was written last winter as I was reflecting on life, about to turn 60, so it was more of a metaphorical cave, wanting to withdraw, retreat for awhile. Plus I'd been observing my tortoise.

We've been having winter weather since before Halloween, so I take this with a grain of salt. Solstice duly noted. Why would an animal (bear, I presume) snuggle up on a cool cave floor?
