Jana Kalina lives with her husband on Vancouver Island. Given her background in social sciences and journalism, she's found her voice in what she calls poetic journalism — a way of documenting her Bohemian family history and her life (from a young age) in the many countries she's lived in and travelled through.

As a fan of Jana Kalina's beautiful poetry, haiku, alliteration and colorful birds, I enjoyed this poem.

Now here?s a poem that tests the limits of brevity. It?s not as short as the apocryphal shortest, ?Fleas,? Adam / Had em //, but close. The small towhee fits the poem perfectly.
