distraction
by
Tyler Pearce

yellow cabs and bikes
circle the park, silently, ribboning

which I see through
this tall library window pane

the glint of the sun
the reach of the trees

birds cut cleanly
across a high-rised horizon

it all seems so peaceful
like inside a snow globe, protected.

Then the gray beard next to me
flips his pages

on the carpet nearby
footsteps start swooshing

and the bald man behind me
clickety-clacks at his laptop

underneath his stack of books.
isn’t this usually just white noise?

today my ears are megaphoned
and it all distracts

my econ book pushing me
toward the back of my notebook

to scribble away my unrest.

I want the 5th line from the end to read "today my ears are megaphones"...just because.
