nancy nuisance at 13
by
Phyllis Beckman

can i wear my sisters' sweaters?
live over at my friend's?
get a cordless telephone?
watch tv 'til it ends?

can i eat soup 'stead of meat loaf?
not put my things away?
go biking through the forest?
then go to the matinee?

can i stay home sunday mornings?
wear izods like the rest?
bring a note to teacher saying
i can't take tomorrow's test?

can i have a ride to school, dad?
and can my friends ride too?
can i go shopping in chicago
then visit brookfield zoo?

can i summer in australia?
play basketball at camp?
take modern dancing lessons?
get tan under a lamp?

can i have a boy-girl party?
and can you not be home?
and can i be grown up now?
and not be always known

as "nancy nuisance"?

(march, nineteen and seventy-three)

My wife and I always loved working with Jr, High kids. Thanks for the way that you have presented Nancy.

oops! (really, it's all a blur) nancy nuisance was 13 in nineteen and eighty-three, not seventy-three.
