Alone On A Rainy Day
by
George Wentz

It's a melancholy day,
dim and dreary.
Rain falls steadily,
ringlets in puddles of water.

Raindrops roll down the wet glass
bending trees through the blurry window,
as the random rhythm of rain
pecks away at the roof above me.

The mood invites my mind to nostalgia
to recall the sunshine missing from today,
a comfortable place in the past
far from these tears falling from the clouds.

But there is no warmth left
in those dusty attic trunks,
the ones that hold the scent and feel
of clothes packed away long ago.

They can't be filled with those who wore them
to talk, and laugh, and share this day.
The rain is my companion now,
alone -- the rain and me.

We all have those trunks of clothes...indeed.

Ah, melancholy. Sometimes it is what is called for. Thanks George.
