reality check
by
Phyllis Beckman

although the extra pounds are gone for now,
to say i "lost" the weight would be untrue.
patiently, plump awaits my lapsed resolve,
awaits in calm assurance of my fate.
as hour glass grains are certain they will fall,
my hips and thighs recall how large to grow.
