Twentieth Century Queen
by
Phyllis Beckman

(at 55th Class Reunion)
Class of ' 57

I'm shorter now,
My spine's askew
Four babes on hips....
What can I do?
And aging spots?
I've got my share
Plus, enlarged pores
And nasal hair.
No lipstick gloss,
No cheeks of peach,
No eyebrows plucked
O'er eyelash reach...
But in the past,
I have to say,
(nineteen-fifties),
These looks held sway!
"What's that?", you ask,
Stifling a yawn,
Careful to not
String me along!
Oh, you sweet thing,
My mem'ry's sharp!
So, please to note
What I impart...
My claim to fame?
(this his'try's current)
I was Prom Queen!
And you?...You weren't?!?

I think this a wonderful ode to a personal piece of history!
