Menage Au Trios
by
Mark Lane

I have always wondered why socks should come in pairs,
If they came in sets of three then they would come with spares.

There’s always one that wears out first, the first to sprout a toe,
But if you had an extra one, no one would ever know.

This could help me with the one footed ogre that lives inside my drier,
Then if he stole a sock from me, my dilemma would never be too dire.

I know that it’s not natural to include a third when having socks,
And simply by my proposing it, I’m sure there’re folks that it still shocks.

To fold them up in sets of three might hasten our society’s decay,
Perhaps I should wait to see what the moral majority has to say.

It need not be a wasteful thing and some men could use the other sock,
When wearing two upon their feet, they could don the extra as a jock.

Some people just like to shock.
