In Memory
by

*In Memory*

I pray for a day when war is considered old fashioned
And those who fight in them are viewed as antique.
When the preservation of peace makes us impassioned,
And the thought of aggression is viewed as oblique.

When resources are spent reaching out to others,
With a hand opened wide instead of clinched in a fist.
When we see others as our sisters and brothers,
And in peace then we can all coexist.

Until that time comes I’ll bow my head in prayer,
And offer up my thanks for those who have tried.
Dear Lord we raise them up to your loving care,
Knowing that it was for our way of life that they died.

Please watch over those, Lord, who still are engaged,
And for our ideals are put into harm’s way.
Grant them the strength when the battle is waged,
To fight for what’s good and from right do not stray.

And when the last weapon used is put into a museum,
And the last of war’s casualties are at last laid to rest.
I’ll still pray for the children who visit each mausoleum,
Please let them know that by their loss we’ve been blest.
