Holding Hands
by
George Wentz

See me in the sunlight,
where a shadow follows
wherever I go.

I reach out
to hold the shadow's hand
so we can walk together.

Find me over a rainbow,
where the fog lifts
and the land has moved away.

The truth is before us,
the liars stand naked
with nowhere to hide.

Here the hands of time
move sideways,
no longer counting the days.

I am in the sunlight
over a rainbow,
holding your hand in mine.

Thank you for your comments. The 4th stanza is meant as the transition through the Last Judgment. Truth prevails, granting eternal reward. Between the lines I leave it to the reader to identify with the imagery and decide whether both halves of the poem are about the same two people.

Lovely, lovely imagery. My first response is to the ephemeral feeling of timelessness and of forever being able to connect with a loved one. I am wondering about the 4th stanza, though. It changes the mood for me and I feel the "scolding" or accusing tone and it jars the rest of what I get from this piece. Thanks for sharing!
