Darkness
by
Mark Lane

The land of twilight calls to me when the day is done,
A life of light has finished up and darkness has begun.
Vibrant colors of the day turn purple, black and gray,
And shadows drape across the land beckoning me to stray.
Things familiar in the light are now cloaked in mystery,
Changing shapes and darkening places are all that I can see.
Hands reach out from the shadows and pull me to their side,
And deep within enveloping darkness I find it’s safe to hide.
In the light I am so small just a speck upon the earth,
But darkness rejuvenates my soul and grants it second birth.
