This morning’s stillness
allows each small sound
to reach my ear
High-pitched whirr of insects
so faintly heard
almost not there
Bird’s chirp impossibly near
Red squirrel’s angry rattle
shakes the silence
… for a moment
Something buzzes
too close for comfort
No leaf flutters
The sun rises higher
in a vacant sky
I can hear the subtle harmony of my being
the sweet sounds of beauty
that soothe my soul

Lovely, very peaceful, almost a meditation and yet some of the words you use do give a feel of an underlying anxiety, it is what you do not say in this poem that speaks. I write haiku and for me silence says so much.
Silence
between words
stories.

Wonderful awakening poem. It's why we write to pay attention (well, me, that's why I write, to hear the barely inaudible insects)
It almost seems toungue in cheek. You claim it soothes you, but the words like "high-pitched." and "angry rattle" and "too close for comfort" and even "vacant" suggest something is underlying the stillness, something that isn't still, maybe even worriesome.
I am always a little wary of the word soul in a poem. It is such a weighted word. And as the last word it is even more obtrusive, drawing a lot of attention to itself and away from the rest of the poem. It could simply end, The sweet sounds of beauty that soothe me.
