Maxwell House Memories
by
James Kenny

Lost in my empty cup
wade escaped grounds
and memories
Caffeine taints my mind
with flashing visions

A Columbian mountainside
El Exigente
Juan Valdez
the Hills Brothers
and Mrs. Olsen
Stirred a vat
of steamy aromatic brew
singing a coffee anthem
in a shower
if black roasted beans
and sparkling spring water

Roused from my revelry
the waitress fills my cup
and once again I swim
in warm electric memories
of one thousand cups of coffee sipped in my salad days
