Let's Pretend
by
justin ogline

let's pretend that none of this has happened
let's pretend that tomorrow is the weekend
let's pretend that we have all the time to spend
within the corners of each other's minds
picking up the fallen pieces
when we discovered the time
flashing digits on darkened walls
no phone calls this morning
too busy mourning the loss of will
the night before with the pills
filled for comfort i forgot to charge
my desire to talk finding it dead
in the early time of day easier
than fading away into obscure irrelevance
all those moments we spent pretending
led up to this day we wish to pretend
that this was a different day with different people
leading the way but we no longer play
can we pretend that none of this happened
can we pretend that tomorrow is the weekend
can we pretend that it would still matter
