Christmas Eve
by
George Wentz

Santa's busy packing his sleigh
with presents and packages,
his pockets stuffed with letters
getting ready to make his way.

Little Elijah wrote asking for
a remote controlled truck
and bones for his dog friends,
Trinity and Max. Nothing more.

Kaitlyn said she was good this year
and would really like an iPod,
promising to leave cookies for him
and corn for the reindeer.

Some requests were put very simply
like the one from Lily, age five,
who said all she wants for Christmas
are her two front teeth, seriously!

Where will he find the space
to put the horse, snowmobile,
helicopter, skateboards, dolls,
and all else in time to start the race?

He checks his notes again and finds more:
Bring comfort, bring peace, bring hope,
for people in need around the world;
things that cannot be bought at any store.

Tonight while no creature stirs, not even a mouse,
we know Santa will deliver the Spirit
of Christmas to all -- even to the little boy
who asked to wake up at his mommy's house.
