I have a confession
by
Brendan Curran

I have a confession.
I know more than the greatest minds ever knew.
But my knowing is not knowing without you.
In fact, it is the result of you.

You, who are in some ways a door and in others a key;
You open me with your openness.
You compel me to open myself.
And in my open self I’ve found gold.

Not gold, however, in the geological sense
But the idea of gold.
You see, gold is not gold unless we say it’s gold.
Like a true alchemist you take the rock that was in me and turned it to precious.

This, then, is the secret of my knowing.
I’ve experienced the transformation of myself.
Like alchemy, though, the magic occurs with only the right elements under the right conditions.
Now and forever, me and you.

The precious self is not found in the mirror,
It is reflected by you.
And this is love.
