Scarecrows Lament
by

Scarecrows Lament

a long dark shadow glides heavily
across a desolate field of discarded life/
the wretched lone effigy draped in faded tatters
mocks the crucified to hang as a guardian savior/
limbs tossed by the breath of a cold bitter tongue/
no hands will arrive to rescue a forsaken figure/
crudely painted eyes peer upwards
to beseech a wordless prayer of redemption/
tears cannot wet the dry crackled cheek/
there is no heavy heart to crack into a break/
the limp empty head transmits
no sensations of pain/
but a mournful voice echoes in songs of the wind/
as screams of the dying fall down in the furrows/
endlessly battered and beaten to shreds
victims of time ravaged torture/
remnants desperately cling to a hopeless demise/
Earth turns it back to the sun/
nature commands the moment of slumber
hidden beneath cold crystal stars/
