Youth and Age
by
Daniel Cleary

Sustained, it seems, on little more than air
We flew across vast territories then.
Carrying it all off with audacious flair
We stayed out late, not getting home till dawn.

Now measuring out our tablespoons by rote
We take our medicine, as well we may
And never venture forth witout a coat
For fear we might get chilled along the way.

Amber:
Although I think the first stanza could use just a little bit of polishing, I like this bittersweet reflection on the passage of time.

Those were the days, my friend. I wouldn't have missed them for the world. But how we've changed. Now pill bottles line the kitchen shelves and warm fleece is our companion. Rose
