A fathers lament
by
Daniel Hadel

Green grass flows beside a shattered porch
A side walk lies broken from use and age
A wooden fence still stands watch
Over what was and is no more
Children ran, played and a puppy chased
Mom hung clothes on a wire in space
Bricks stood warm and true
Holding what was and is no more
Destiny's grown with lives anew
Far and away they are today
Mom and Dad still remember well
What was and is no more
Flowers dream and want of spring
Babies cry and laugh and sing
These old bricks still stand through
The years drift by; time is true
