To My (former) Valentine
by
robert manchester

As I sit,
holding my own hand,
and drinking both your
and my wine,
I find myself so very interesting,
so very fine.

I walk in the path
with myself on my arm.
I fill up the time
with conversation
of wit and charm,
my life so sublime.

My thoughts of myself,
so vivid and impure,
cause me to catch my breath,
for if fully enacted
would be more than i could endure,
would surely cause my death.

So what of you
and how do you fare?
Are you happy?
Let me tell you
my unfortunate dear
i love only myself,
so I don't really care.

a little tongue & cheek, a saddness in your beak, I'd take out Unfortunate and leave in my dear, I've learned to love myself, and I love myself reversing despair to care. (Then the ending is stronger).
