Fall Anticipates Winter
by
Judith Hartberg

Trees, now skeletons,
no disguises.
All is austerity and
shrunken down to bone.

A crow’s call shatters
Fall’s crystal air,
splitting atoms in
a harsh and wicked tone.

Fall anticipates Winter
no disguises,
no promises.
All is austerity and
shrunken down to bone.
