Tai Chi on Maui Mornings
by
Bob Casey

The wind ceaselessly blows
over the small escarpment–
the beach mere feet away.
In the distance whales play,
showing off for simple mortals.
Here is the chosen spot
for morning tai chi.
I inhale and exhale,
flowing with the wind–
first TCH* and then Yang 24.
Few glance
but most move on
leaving me in peace.
First days and then weeks flow by
as I wear a pattern
in this special grassy place.

*TCH stands for Tai Chi for Health, also known as Tai Chi for Arthritis. Yang 24 is another form requiring more balance kicks.

I am past president of the Ohio Poetry Association and have published four books. My free monthly ezine, the Poetical Journal, begins its 13th year of publication in February '14. Its mission is "To provide thoughtful comments on life." Jan and I moved to Utah in August to be near are new granddaughter. I have been extremely pleased with the poetry and writing options available in our area of Utah. Being a serious photographer and outdoor enthusiast, there are many wonderful options.

This is a lovely lyrical poem, but I have two comments. If you have to explain an acronym, I would leave out the line. This poem is not about what kind of tai chi you do. Also in the last line, I would cut "special". You have made this a special place in the way you have written a poem, you don't need to tell us what you've done.

The title was left off "Tai Chi on Maui Mornings".
