Lap-top reflections
by
Rhona Aitken

Lap-tops hold secrets -
hopes and dreams
filling that reflective screen.

I spray alphabet and numbers
with tears and laughter -
words tumbling for their freedom
from my pen.

I have a slim green note-book,
a school book
with margins, lines.
Rubber-tipped pencils.

It doesn't seem so Philistine to consign
inner thoughts to pages -
though eventually
they end up upon that screen
that reflects me as I write.

It is as though my Lap-top has gobbled me up,
made me an inevitable part
of the contents of its interior
living in Files, Document or Disc
with all the driftings of my mind;
and contents of my heart.

I switch off -
but still - there it is -
my reflection
on that silent
enigmatic screen

on that silent
enigmatic screen.
