childhood hideaway
by
Phyllis Beckman

beneath majestic towering elms
a grove of lilacs thrive
within the grove a careful path
in deep concealment lies

that careful path within the grove
a secret space defines
where unbeknownst the children hide
upon a day sublime

but no one seeks the offspring small
i am inclined to say
instead of wringing work worn hands
their parents shout hurray!
