to my father to my father
by
Phyllis Beckman

dead many years ago today
i'm over it
i won't recall you with dismay
i'm over it

forget and forgive is the way
that's my intent, let come what may
so rest in peace beneath the clay
i'm over it

Your repetitive title is an effective clue to the reader to fasten their emotional seatbelt. The use of the line, "i'm over it", three times suggests, to me, that we are never really over the most difficult parts of our lives. However in your poem, I see the inner struggle to carry on regardless. A nicely crafted and heartfelt poem.
