Cityheart
by
Jack Kelly

Hand clutched in hand, we pour into the street,
and the street pours back,
a roaring amber tsunami towering for miles
and crashing down to swallow us in watercolour chaos

Eyes child-bright and hungry (unworldly beyond description)
we surrender, swept into the riptide, pure exhiliration grips our bones,
Feet keeping up with bodies, bodies keeping up
with impetuous souls baying for freedom to soar into the ether

We could be anywhere, we will be everywhere,
we have every instant known to man,
for now we melt into one another
in the heat of unsteady breath, swirling like the pavement

The human hive is marginal and forgotten;
Our heads intoxicated and swimming,
our hearts sharing secret sparks through whispers,
and glances, and hand clutched in hand
