UNTIL MY DYING DAY
by
JOSHUA REID

I cry out for our magic,
I feel it dancing in the light,
But you were cold, I lost my hold,
To the shadows in the night.

You are just a picture now,
Just an image in my mind,
We were a lie, you and I,
Very briefly intertwined.

We dropped our lies down in the well,
We prayed it would come true,
But we were blind, out of our minds,
To think we were not through.

I hoped and prayed we’d see the day,
That our love would conquer all,
But that was dumb, I am now numb,
To the pain, the tears, and the fall.

Upon ourselves we took a task,
That proved to be too great indeed,
But we failed, our hearts were veiled,
Now in dark, we must recede.

Can’t you see the end is here,
Can’t you feel it in your bones,
You can’t deny, it’s in your eyes,
Your heart has turned to stone.

I must admit my judgment,
Hasn’t always played a part,
You know I tried, even when I lied,
And you were always in my heart.

Now our doomed love has not yet died,
Though I sense the end grows nearer,
Since I broke your heart, we’ve been apart,
And the finish line grows clearer.

I’ve read your mind a hundred times,
And each time it takes it’s toll,
To see you slip, out of my grip,
It slowly kills my soul.

I’ve tried to harden up my heart,
Tried to block it from the pain,
But deep down inside, I must’ve died,
And what’s left is just a stain.

I fought against the dying light,
That was once our morning sun,
But the fire’s out, without a doubt,
And the pain has just begun.

But do not cry for I am here,
And here I’ll always stay,
I’m locked inside, these walls of pride,
Until my dying day.
