As It Ever Shall Be
by
Donal Mahoney

Every man leads
in the daily race
that takes a lifetime.

Right behind him,
God and Satan,
one of whom

always wins.
It can be a toss-up but
one of them knows

who will win.
He simply waits.
The other has to scurry.
