The leaves are green,
the nuts are brown.
They hang so high,
they will not come down.

Leave them alone
‘til frosty weather,
then they will all
come down together.

The author of this poem is, unfortunately, unknown, but it seems to have been written in or before the late 16th century. The poem has been set to music by at least four different composers; it can also be sung to the tune of "Here We Go 'Round the Mulberry Bush."
