Cotton Candy Winter
by
Peter A. Witt

Next

Winter covered the naked trees
in cotton candy dresses,
camouflaged the earth in powder puffs,
dotted silent sky with wisps of tinsel
spread by shy wind whispers
from the mouths of shadowy white hares
hesitant to paw for green grass tendrils
lest they disturb the silent scene.

I love this poem because the imagery of naked trees wearing cotton candy dresses, powder puffs and shadowy white hares turns a drab day into a beautiful one.

Bravo, Peter. If that's the sort of winter you're enjoying, I'd like to live there.
